This book is great, but a little too short. I got it for my 11-year old, baseball-fanatic nephew and he seemed to really appreciate the gift. I enjoyed reading the newspaper clippings and getting a glimpse at what baseball looked like in 1888; I just wish there had been more of all that. At any rate, the gift was a success, I'm glad I bought it and would buy it again for another baseball-obsessed child!

An absolute joy to read.
This poem is a poem that in my opinion you can truly love and appreciate without being a baseball fan.
The descriptive style in which it was written makes you feel as if you were there.
A very good and enjoyable piece of literature.
This book is classic in both the prose and the illustrations. This summer (June, 2016) I read it to 300 primary students and had a small group of them act it out. They loved it. To me this was true evidence that the 1888 ballad is the greatest baseball poem/ballad ever written.
